ECHO Quilt Sashing Directions

Here's a quick look on how to make the ECHO quilt, especially
those sashing strips.    These directions are for Intermediate quilters or adventurous advanced beginners.

30" x 30" Quilt Featuring the ECHO block with a special sashing strip.

3" x 12" Sashing Strip.

 Layout 2 Background Rectangles, 2 Flying Geese A, 2 Flying Geese B and 1 Hourglass Unit as shown in the Sashing Strip picture above.  Sew units together to make the Sashing Strip that measures 3 1/2" x 12 1/2".  Make 4 of these.

Layout 4 ECHO blocks (directions from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Vol 11, of course), 4 Sashing Strips and one Cornerstone as shown in the quilt picture.  Sew units within each row together.  Then, sew rows together to make a 27 1/2" square quilt center.

From the background fabric, cut two 2" x 27 1/2" Side Border strips and two 2" x 30 1/2" Top/Bottom Border strips.  Sew Side Border strips onto opposite sides of the quilt center.  Then, sew the Top/Bottom Border strips onto the remaining sides of the quilt to measure 30 1/2" square.
